Doom II: Doosk Mod is a free video game utility that allows you to use Dusk weapons in Doom II. Developed by Alpha Entertainments, this weapon mod primarily adds weapons from the Dusk game into your Doom II game—specifically with the GZDoom and LZDoom source ports. Not only that, but this mod also incorporates some of the weapons’ original behaviors, allowing you to enjoy them in their natural movements and animations.

A two-in-one package

Doom II: Hell on Earth is a 1994 first-person shooter game by id Software and is the second game in the cult classic Doom franchise. Meanwhile, Dusk is a 2018 retro-styled first-person shooter developed by David Szymanski, inspired primarily by the Doom series itself. The key difference between them is the type of enemies they offered: Doom II’s demons were more from the Christian Hell archetype while Dusk’s were more of the occult Lovecraftian kind.  

With the Doosk mod, you can combine the two together. You can play in Doom II’s world while wielding Dusk’s unique weapons. All weapons were ripped, recreated, and ported into the source ports—even the health item, Cigar, since it’s counted as one. Their dual-wielded versions and some throwable items were ported, too. Even the Fast Fire Totem powerup was added. However, this isn’t only about weapon models, as their unique properties can be experienced, too.

The sickle can still deflect in different ways, the crossbow goes through walls and enemies, and there’s an optional addon for Dusk movement if you prefer that to Doom II’s movement. Game mutators are available for use, whether for fun or more challenges. You can also aim to get achievements and secrets or tackle the difficult Intruder Mode. The mod also gives you a flashlight and even a custom Dusk HUD.

A love letter to both games

Overall, Doom II: Doosk Mod is highly recommended for any fans of either game. It seamlessly melds the two worlds together and it’s also compatible with Zandronum, allowing you to play multiplayer in Dooskworld—its version of DuskWorld. Probably the only serious issue you’ll find is how difficult it is to read the menu text because of the color contrasts between it and the background.
